KOMENTARZ

Oryginalny rysunek, projekt ilustracji, publikowany w 1979 r.
Antoni Chodorowski (1946-1999) - grafik karykaturzysta, autor ilustracji do książek, plakatów, zajmował się także fotografią i malarstwem. Debiutował w „Jazz Forum” w 1970 roku. Publikował swoje rysunki w licznych pismach krajowych m.in. „Szpilkach”, „Karuzeli”, „Politechniku”, „Polsce”, „Polityce”, „Najwyższym CZASIE!”, „Fonosferze” i „Tygodniku Solidarność” oraz w kilku zagranicznych m.in. niemieckim „Pardonie” i jugosłowiańskim „Jeżu”. Zdobywca Grand Prix Międzynarodowego Konkursu na Plakat Festiwalu Filmów Przeciwko Dyskryminacji Rasowej w Strasburgu. Dwukrotny laureat Brązowej (1979, 1983) i Srebrnej Szpilki (1984).

An original drawing, meant as an illustration design to accompany a poem by Leszek Mech entitled "Hello, this is a long distance call!" published in 1979, hand-made by Antoni Chodorowski, a graphic artist, caricaturist, painter, book illustrator, poster designer and photographer. What an amazing relic of the time when making a long-distance call was a time-consuming undertaking fraught with stress, misunderstandings and strange sounds, something that is completely taken for granted in our digital world.

Chodorowski (1946-1999) graduated from the Faculty of Interior Design of Warsaw's Academy of Fine Arts in 1975, majoring in industrial design in the studio of Prof. Wróblewski.

After he'd made his debut as a cartoonist in the Jazz Forum magazine in 1970, his drawings were published in numerous Polish periodicals (including "Szpilki", "Karuzela", "Fundamenty", "Czas", "Polska", "Polityka", "Najwyższy Czas", "Fonosfera" and "Tygodnik Solidarność") and abroad.

Curiously enough, he made a series of cartoonspublished regularly in "Film" and "Warszawski Informator Kulturalny" ("WiK"), that single-handedly reviewed exhibition openings and film and theatre premieres .

He went down in history primarily as an exquisite satirical cartoonist and caricaturist portraying politicians and famous personalities. He also dealt with book illustration, graphics, posters and photography. His art was featured in numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Among others, he was the winner of Grand Prix of the International Poster Competition at the Festival of Films Against Racial Discrimination in Strasbourg and the winner of the Bronze (1979, 1983) and Silver Pin (1984), awards granted by the "Szpilki" satirical magazine.
