Summary: A branch of art, at the turn of the century named applied art, has played an important role in 20th-century Polish culture. It was first inspired by Ruskin an Morris whose ideas met with keen response in Poland whose views soon acquired local colouring. The present book deals with Polish interpretations of the term and outlines the areas explored by applied art, pointing out its achievements and conflicts it has faced in the 20th century. The book was designed both as a sketch of historical developments and a review of underlying problems.
